Dr. Jan Marontate is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University.

Jan Marontate, Hon. B.A. (Sociology and Urban Studies, York U.), M.Sc.(Demography, U. Montréal) and Ph.D. (U. Montréal) taught sociology and held a Canada Research Chair in Technology and Culture at Acadia University in Nova Scotia (1998-2006)before joining the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University in 2006. She was a pre-doctoral research fellow at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. and a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre de sociologie de l’innovation, l’école des Mines, Paris. During a sabbatical in 2004-05 she was based at the Chemical Heritage Society in Philadelphia.

Her current research projects focus on arts networks, cultural heritage institutions, collective memory, changing forms of creative work, technological innovation and trans-disciplinary collaboration. She has served on the board of arts research groups in l’association internationale de sociologues de langue française (GR18), the International Sociological Association (RC37), and is a member of the International Advisory Board of Cultural Sociology.
